Megan MacCarthy isn’t local, but she has been very helpful! I don’t know how I stumbled upon her, exactly, but I’m sure glad I did!
This sweet, smart, online yogi has done more to help me overcome a variety of chronic pains and to improve general well being than all sorts of other endeavors. Not to knock any of them at all, this has just been exceptionally effective.
About the Instructor
According to her YouTube channel, “Megan MacCarthy is a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and E-RYT 500 who offers IAYT and Yoga Alliance approved Somatic Yoga Trainings and private yoga therapy in person and online. All of her free content is “an invitation to you to bring curiosity and playfulness into your unique and amazing body; and to remember who you are in peace and joy.”
Basically, those qualifications mean she’s had over 1200 hours of specialized yoga training, is qualified to teach teachers, and has met rigorous requirements as a practitioner. While now based in Ireland, she owned a yoga studio in Wisconsin for ten years, and will tell you her students are the best teachers of all. She has also trained teachers on Long Island, including Shirley Newton and Deborah McDermot. If you want an in person class, she warmly recommends them!
Her channel offers a broad range of videos, ranging from 15-minute offerings of favorite techniques to complete practices that are over an hour long. These may move with the season, focus on specific objectives, or provide full body practices. They are good for novices and the more experienced alike, and as luxurious and joyful as they are functional. Plus, she’s just lovely.
The website, embodywithmm.com provides a whole range of opportunities to engage more deeply and to support her work. She also has a Patreon, which supports her work, especially being able to offer all her wonderful free classes on YouTube.

However, none of that is required to appreciate the practical physical therapy that she offers.
I’m glad I found her. Hope you enjoy.
