Huntington Arts Council: Conversations in the Arts, More!

One upshot out of all the challenges in recent years has been the rise of online offerings. I am SO excited about connecting more in-person, but being able to catch so many events from any place, any time is phenomenal. Have you seen the Huntington Arts Council’s “Conversations in the Arts” program? It’s fantastic.

See who’s been featured, what they talked about and access audio recordings here. The events are all first presented live on the Huntington Arts Council Facebook Page where viewers can join in.

Talking About LI Galleries
I was impressed and inspired by my own recent experience as part of one highlighting LI galleries. Jessica Valentin aka “Ratgrrl” moderated. It is sad to hear her Muñeca Arthouse is closed. I regret never making it out there and am grateful she shared so much of her journey. She’s a great asset to the LI art scene. Karen Levitov, Director and Curator of the  Staller Center’s Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery at Stony Brook University shared an incredible and incredibly thoughtful diversity of programming. Krystin Banko who conceived of and curates the gallery within The Spotlight in The Paramount Theater shared some of that amazing work.

It was a great conversation that touched on a range of deep topics including galleries’ roles in the community, and what they can do to increase diversity of representation and foster new generations of artists. This is important stuff to consider and keep talking about!
