The mission of the Long Island Public Arts Festival (LIPAF) is to provide an accessible and engaging arts festival for the community and to create new opportunities for talented local artists. It is inclusive and diverse, both in terms of media and the artists themselves, servin as a platform for innovative approaches to community engagement through arts and culture.
Founded by BACCA (Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts), Harper Bella and Jose Tutiven of Colored Colors, this initiative was initially made possible by Creatives Rebuild New York. The most recent event last summer made possible in part by the Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs (SCOCA), showcasing “over 50 diverse artworks displayed within striking life-size prisms thoughtfully placed throughout the park’s landscape.” In addition to these fully immersive art installations, there was a community mural project, creative workshops and a panel offering candid conversations with artists about their processes, stories and impact.
