Cafe Portofino
Portofino, at 249 Main Street, has been a Northport staple for decades. Passed down from owner to owner, it ebbs and flows with the tide and yet always remains…Portofino. A cozy space to grab a cuppa and settle in with a good book or an old friend. Grab a delicious bite. Perhaps savor some local talent.
The newest owners, one aptly named Joe and the other his lovely wife, Robyn, bring decades of experience in hospitality and restaurant management to the table. They are committed to embodying the best of what the spirit of Portofino means, and to broadly embracing the Northport community.
Refreshment for the Body, Food for the Soul. Thank You for Making Us Smile!
As one example, they immediately connected with the light that is Brielle Neumann and installed a “Smile Wall,” where you can share what brings you happiness. Read all about it in this June 20th Northport Journal article by Joanne Kountourakis.
There is so much more! Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to get a taste of what they’re serving up, and the fresh energy they’re bringing as people and purveyors of fine caffeinated beverages. They are super excited about their food offerings, too. There are both gluten free and gluten full bakery treats, tasty sandwiches and more. In this, they proudly feature Flux Coffee, serendipiTea, and Oh Crumbs! the Bakery, who complement their own gastrological talents beautifully. They are even excited about their ice.
Whether you’re into something warm and familiar, or willing to take a walk on the wild side, it’s delicious!
A Homecoming: Fireflies Light Up Portofino!
Again, Portofino itself is an institution. If these walls could talk, they’d have stories to tell. One would be about an emerging jewelry-maker of a barista who, nearly 15 years ago, together with a local artist who liked the coffee, dreamed of owning a place where the established and the emerging, the artist and the artisan could together form a home.
Such was the dream that manifested as our dear Firefly, right down the road! Over the years, many of our artists have hung on Portofino’s walls. We are thrilled to be back there again. Last August, it was Firefly Jennifer Mariotti with her gorgeous paint pour creations. Now, it’s Firefly Deidre Elzer-Lento with a show of beachy scenes and Northport streetscapes that are carefully crafted digital artworks derived from her beautiful photographs.
The show is on view all this month, with a reception Saturday, September 13, 2025, 6-8pm. Music will be provided by Erica Lynch.
Come, get a nosh and find out for yourself how nice this is. If you’re really lucky, soon you might get to meet their new baby.
Hope to see you at the reception!
