Nominate Today! Fair Media Council Folio Awards
NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2025 FOLIO AWARDS ARE DUE FEBRUARY FIRST! This event, run by our sponsor The Fair Media Council, recognizes the best in news and social media. All may be nominated – professionals, freelancers, students — so long as the work was published in 2024. Entries may include National and New York regional news of any topic, along with LI hyper-local news stories. Social media submissions may come from anywhere to educate, inspire, or enlighten.
Nominees are judged by both “accomplished journalists and communication professionals alongside community leaders with a demonstrated commitment to the communities they serve.” Select invitations are sent each year, together with detailed guidelines for evaluating entries. I’m honored to have been a judge myself in the past, and found the experience deeply educational and enlightening. This event itself is excellent networking, bringing together the best in media and public relations, as well as a whole host of local notables. You can find information about past honorees here.
About the Fair Media Council
The Fair Media Council has a multi-pronged mission that essentially works to advance quality journalism, and to help people become more discerning and better understand the media landscape. Their Member Benefits are valuable, their newsletter informative and thought provoking.
Subscribe to their Award-Winning Podcast, “FMC Fast Chat,” which engages notable guests in profound, informative conversation. The latest episode, “Breaking Down the First Amendment in a Digital World,” offers deep insight from Clay Calvert, one of the foremost experts in First Amendment Law. There, he clarifies a number of important aspects key to understanding the First Amendment, including the balance between free speech and responsibility, how the First Amendment actually protects social media companies’ right to moderate their content, why the government can still ban TikTok, and how to be “media savvy” amidst so much misinformation and apps designed to be addictive.
You can also participate in their upcoming education session being held February 6th: AI, Algorithms & Paywalls: Navigating the New Media Landscape, which is designed to “equip you with the tools to stand out, connect and thrive.”
However you choose to engage, it’s always a worthwhile experience.
