Katheryn Laible now has a show together with friends on view at the recently renamed Moksha Café (formerly Portofino). The exhibition tells the story of artistic journeys and deep friendship. The show will be on view throughout the month of January.
A reception will be held: Thursday, 1/15 6-9pm
Location: Moksha Café, 249 Main Street, Northport, NY
Light refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there!
About the Café & the Artist
After coming into new ownership of the Moksha Café (formally Portofino), Proprieters Joe and Robyn have brought a lighter step to this gateway of Northport’s downtown. Moksha aims to set itself apart while complementing its neighbors, serving sommelier-directed coffee beverages and other tasty fare that changes with the season. Those willing may sit themselves for a flatbread while enjoying these masterfully brewed concoctions. Beer and wine are now also available. You can keep up with all their latest on Instagram and Facebook.

Firefly Katheryn Laible is a writer, a photographer, and handy in many ways. Sometimes, she paints. About the Show
In 2017, Katie was honored to be invited into The Firefly Artists as an emerging fine art photographer. The day she first hung her work, she brought a favorite and, for her, fundamental image entitled “Vanderbilt Door.” Looking directly across the room, she noticed a copperplate etching of the same subject. At that time, she also happened to be reading “Captains Courageous” by Rudyard Kipling aloud to her family.
Soon after she finished the book, the Artist of the copperplate walked in, a weathered old Gloucester fisherman himself, who loves that story of his home. They hit it off instantly, becoming fast friends and delighting at the Firefly community they got to share. As fate would have it, soon after Katheryn was invited to become a Managing Partner of the Firefly and Jim became determined to “make a real artist out of her” (with all due respect to photographers, of course, still, he felt she should paint).
She loved the idea, and proceeded to be a willful student. They started with clouds and sky, Jim’s and her favorite subjects, followed soon after by trees, flowers, and other beloved, familiar views… Here is a sampling of some of her favorites, each encouraged, inspired and painted by the side of Firefly James Darcy, together with a few photographs of Northport and greater Long Island.
One photo is from farther afield. In 2025, Katheryn was blessed to drive across the United States and back with her children. While her son was driving, she managed to “Catch a Train,” with her iphone, and delightedly sent the image to Jim. Jim was inspired. When she got home, the product of an extraordinary collaboration awaited her.
“There and Back Again,” is painted by Fireflies Loretta Cerame, Jim Darcy, and Drigo Morin. It is an honor to be on this journey with them, and to present this show to you, thanks to our neighbors here at Moksha Café. May you, too, be delighted and inspired.
