“The Sun and the Moon on a January Morning” by Katheryn Laible
February Plea, 2026
Good morning. Rise and shine. Open your eyes. Open your mind. Open your heart.
It’s never too late to do what’s right. May we give it our best, and bring out the best in each other.
May we learn better, do better with every single breath, guided by truth and love and faith that it’s all worth while. I promise you it is.
There are more folks out there who want to do the right thing, to live in harmony on a healthy planet, than we realize. Too many who don’t, fail to do so because they lack faith in this. Too many others, because they fear themselves irredeemable.
Way too many have been kicked in the head, way too hard, way too many times. Some really don’t seem to understand at all and it’s not good for them, either. It’s a sick, twisted mess out there. Been that way since the dawn of recorded time.
My heart breaks for so many with so much power who seem to have given up or to be lost in small things. Even the least among us have such great power. May we give it our best to use it for good.
May we forgive each other. May we forgive ourselves. This is not the same as enabling. Acceptance and compassion are not the same as condoning or allowing. May we discern wisely, gently, firmly, invitingly, holding space for folks to sort themselves out and standing up for what our heart of hearts knows is right.
May we have the courage to see where we’ve been wrong. May we give it our best to do better.
It is learning. It is healing. It is teaching. It is the only way to guide ourselves out of vicious cycles of false opposition and devastating trauma.
Blessed is the patient teacher and the nurturing healer. the honest defender of justice, whatever uniform you may or may not wear. Grateful to all who patiently persistently advocate for what they know and believe is right; who recognize that they, too, are human, and so listen to others and endeavor to ever keep learning as well.
We can do this. We’ve done it before. It’s the best thing to do. The foundations of trust upon which we’ve built so much are real, hard won, and worth rebuilding and sustaining. They are everywhere, from the most fundamental bond between mother and child, to friends, to countless communities, to men who stand upon the shoulders of giants and honestly endeavor to recognize what has supported them, and to lift as they climb.
You can be liberal. You can be conservative. We need the whole spectrum. You don’t have to be a democrat or a republican, I’m not sure we need either. Maybe we need more. What we really need is to double down on basic fundamental values, realize we need work together to get the whole picture, and give it our best to get the playing field straight.
Those giving it their best to do the right thing regularly work miracles regularly. No deed is too small. It all matters. More than we can conceive. May we endeavor humbly and gracefully. Grateful to all giving it their best.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
