"All's Fair in Love and Media" but Quality Journalism Matters.
In reading a recent issue of “The Latest,” (which we encourage folks to read) we realized two entities we deeply appreciate just came together to talk about a mission they share: Quality journalism. Seems like an important thing to talk about, especially with folks as experienced as these guys, and especially now when too many folks on every side don’t seem to know who to believe or what journalistic standards actually are.
Said Jaci Clement of The Fair Media Council, “A big thank you to Greg Zeller and InnovateLI for having me on Spark: The InnovateLI Podcast. Our conversation covered the state of American media, why trust matters more than ever, and how the Fair Media Council works to promote accountability and integrity in journalism to serve the public interest — because in the end, it’s the public we represent in media matters.
We also touched on the Folio Awards, innovation, and some of the people and stories that continue to inspire my work.
Grateful to InnovateLI for shining a light on these issues—hope you’ll give it a listen.”
About Innovate Long Island
Innovate Long Island was founded by the late, great John Kominicki in 2015 as a groundbreaking digital endeavor to cover and promote the Long Island innovation economy. Just this month, John’s right hand and the person he would quickly tell you was the reason all the good stuff got done, Marlene McDonnell, stepped down after a decade at the helm. Innovate News Service LLC is now the publication’s new parent company. You can read about the whole team, and the spirit that drives them here.
According to their website, “Both the flagship publication and the new parent take the broadest view of ‘innovation.’ To us, innovation is new thinking from student inventors and entrepreneurial business owners; it’s great startup ideas and corporate ingenuity; it’s world-class laboratory research and a thriving network of business incubators eager to commercialize brilliant science, clever products and awesome new services.”
Innovate LI just issued its 1000th-ish weekly newsletter. It’s quick-witted and cutting edge, with a deep care for both journalism and the Long Island economy. We’ve never seen an article where we didn’t learn a lot. Hope you check it out.
